Ambrosia beetles often invade maple trees, leaving them weakened. Often these trees die and fall, and the beetles move on, leaving behind wood with deep brown scarring. This lantern was crafted from that wood, called "wormy" maple or "ambrosia" maple. The splines that reinforce the mitered corners of the lantern and the hummingbird silhouette are made from che chen, a deep chocolate colored tropical hardwood. a 3" diameter flameless candle, safer in a wooden lantern than traditional candles, is included and casts a realistic flickering glow. All proceeds from this sale go to Wildcare Cape Cod.
